Medical Aid for needy Bhagnaris

Friends,

Recently we had an opportunity to help a Bhagnari lady, who had to undergo an operation on her spine. We approached her relatives in Dubai, who promptly arranged to send the requested amount for the medical treatment. We wish the concerned Bhagnari lady a full recovery from her ailment and also thank her relatives for arranging the financial aid. Thanks are also due to one of our Bhagnari youngster Dr. Satyen Mehta for performing the operation free of charge, which helped to ease the financial burden to a great extent.

Although in the above instance, Bhagnari Welfare Society (BWS) was able to arrange the medical assistance, it is now becoming increasingly difficult to meet the requests received by us. BWS is currently facing an acute shortage of funds and is finding it hard to arrange medical assistance in all the cases undertaken on a day to day basis.

BWS entirely relies on donations from the members of the community. Donations are received either:
- for increasing the corpus or
- for meeting specific requests (similar to the instance narrated above)

The increase in corpus helps us to increase the interest income, which is used for:
- monthly payment to the poor families (Rs. 1,000 is given to 25 families per month)
- medical aid
- educational and vocational loans
- miscellaneous expenses

Due to the increase in the medical costs, it is quite possible that we may not be able to arrange the required medical assistance in future. We therefore earnestly request you to donate generously to Bhagnari Welfare Society and thereby help your poor Bhagnari brothers and sisters. We have recently received suggestions to seek assistance from non-Bhagnari charitable organizations and would sincerely like to stay away from using this option. However, if the current situation continues, we may have to arrange external help also.

Your contributions will be duly acknowledged and appreciated.

We would also like to invite your comments and suggestions on this important matter. Please click on the Comments button below to log your comments.

  2. IT IS VERY MUCH REGRETTED TO NOTE THAT SOME OF THE NON NEEDY BHAGNARIS ARE GIVEN ASSISTANCE FOR HOSPITIZATION AND THE COVER OF ALL MEDICINES AND DOCTORS BILLS BUT THE REAL PERSON WHO IS NEEDED REAL HELP FOR THEM IS NOT AVAILABLE. PANCHAYAT FUNDS AND OTHER DONATIONS ARE AVAILABLE BUT ONLY INFLUENCE PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT REQUIRED DONATIONS ARE GIVEN AND THE REAL NEEDY ARE REFUSED. NOW PLS DONT ASK ME FOR THE PROOF EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT.SO INMY VIEW SOME BODY SHOULD BE APPOINTED WHO CAN TAKE CARE AND SEE THAT THE ASSISTANCE GOES TO REAL NEEDY .SO UNLESS THESE DIFFERENCES ARE IMPROVED I DONT THINK ANYBODY WHO CAN UNDERSTAND WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THIS NOBLE CAUSE.

  3. Dear Deepak,

It appears that you have been given an incorect information. The welfare society is really strugling for funds and unless the funds are received, we will have no option but to source them from non-Bhagnari charitable organisations. You will agree that, this option would not be a good reflection on our community.

  5. Hariom Ramesh,

The above incidents have happened in the past. However with your involvement I am sure the corpus will grow. However we need more transparency in the procedure and criteria for applying and getting the money for treatments. U should have a panel and a doctor to consult for the procedure and how to reduce the expenses.

Further more if u get individual medical insurance for people, where they could pay half and the welfare corpus pay the balance, this will help in unforeseen expenses. Look for a policy with more deductible, less choices of hospitals, and the premium will be lower. I strongly this for EVERYONE in the colony. I am sure if u take this as a group, the premiums will be v v low. U can add/deduct people on the list, and the incurring co will take care of the rest.

This is all for now. More later.

    Hariom and godbless to u.
    Keep up the good work.

  7. Hariom Subash,

You have hit the nail on the head. I too have been thinking on the same lines, i.e. provide medical insurance cover for the needy Bhagnaris. Further, the procedures for providing or declining the medical aid have been improved and I am sure these would bear results.
But the fact of the matter remains that we are woefully short of funds.

I also intend contacting my Bhagnari friends in Dubai to help their own relatives, whenever a request for medical aid comes up and I am able to connect that person with his/her relative in Dubai, like I did in the case narrated in the article.

    Regards,

    Ramesh
